My recent experience with a psychedelic sound meditation
What the process looked like and what my takeaways were
A little over a week ago I had one of the most expansive, mind-blowing, and transformative experiences of my life. It combined practices that I’ve loved and used and ones that I had never explored and it led to a 6-hour window of legitimate euphoria and freedom.
I’m still trying to figure out how deep I’m really going to go on this topic because it is still something I’m processing and working through and configuring what, and how much, I potentially want to share online. That being said, it feels too top of mind and all-consuming for me right now to not share it, and I feel eerily safe in this community of wonderful readers (thank you for that by the way!). I also think I’ll share a bit in an upcoming episode with Lucy when I actually tell her about the experience (for the first time ever I’m keeping something from her so that I can tell her on the podcast), but for now I want to share some of the deeper learnings with this group.
Before anyone asks, I will not be sharing the person’s information who led this experience, as I’m encouraged not to. I also want to clearly state that I am well aware this is not for everyone and I am not encouraging anyone to pursue anything they do not want to!
To bring you all the way back to the beginning, I’ve been interested in psilocybin (magic mushrooms) for over 4 years now and its therapeutic benefits. I have always wondered if they could help my anxiety and/or depression and whether I could experience some of the incredibly profound stories I have heard from other people who have undergone guided trips. (If you are someone who is interested in this topic, this episode of the Huberman Lab podcast does a good job explaining it). It has been on my “wish-list” of sorts for a while now as I have felt a little stuck on certain beliefs and stories I tell myself and always caught myself wondering if this experience could help further the work that I currently do (therapy, medication, journaling, meditation, etc). I was connected with someone who leads these experiences and had kept them in mind over the past 2+ years as something I’d like to explore one day. Needless to say, the timing worked and, just last weekend, I got to participate in one of their psychedelic sound meditation journeys. I know it sounds really dramatic to say, but I feel like my life was changed.
