Happy Friday my friends! I’m extra excited for today’s post cause we’re not only switching it up with another collab segment, but we’re also making it SUPER BOWL THEMED. Cause duh. Sadly I won’t be in attendance this weekend, but Joe will so we are praying that he is the true Philly good luck charm (given that he was there to watch the Eagles win their sole superbowl and the Phillies win a world series, I’m kinda thinking he is??). And who better than to collab with for today’s Substack ahead of (arguably) one of the biggest weekends in sports of the year??? Let me introduce you to Lily Checketts Shimbashi! Lily is the founder and creator of Sportsish - a community aiming to bridge the gap between sports and pop culture, fashion, and authentic women's coverage. She carved out a digital space in 2021 with a commitment to making sports accessible and enjoyable for all, our all female team embarked on a mission to redefine sports fandom. Today, Sportsish stands as a vibrant community where sports are anything but traditional. As she likes to say, "It's not your boyfriend's sports news.”
I’m so excited to be sharing a more personal look into how we indulge in all things sports and how we’re going into a big weekend. Let’s get into it…
What I’m Watching -
Cameron:
Severance - Per everyone’s recommendation, Joe and I started S1E1 and I honestly am unsure whether it’s for me. He keeps asking me if I want to watch episode 2 or if he should move on without me and I can’t decide. Everyone is saying “give it time” but I kinda hate when I have to do that for shows??? So TBD on if I’m a fan.
Kinda Pregnant - By this point I’ve talked about this movie and the premiere I went to (!!!) at nauseum on social media, but it is so funny!!! A comedy around pregnancy with an incredibly stacked cast and lots of real underlying storylines.
Emily Didonato’s New Series Who’s At My Door - I had the honor of being Em’s first guest for her new youtube series and it was so much fun! I love getting to work with friends and the final result was chefs kiss
Lily:
Onyx Storm Booktok: I just finished the book and am so entirely shook to my core that I feel like I am spending my time in a constant tiktok scroll to see fan theories and reactions.
Cinderella Story: Listen, I’m sitting on my flight from NYC to NOLA for a few Super Bowl events and this was deep in the on-board movie options. If you think I’m ever going to say no to this absolute banger, you’re wrong. Plus, it’s got just enough football to be the perfect sportsish option ahead of this weekend.
Women’s NCAA Basketball: Football has dominated my television for months so this little break before the Super Bowl has given me the opportunity to expand my horizons on the weekend and women’s college basketball is the most exciting sport to watch right now. JuJu Watkins at USC feels like she could becomme the greatest women's basketball player in NCAA history. Plus, LSU head coach, Kim Mulkey's fits are always wildly entertaining.
Bonus Q for Lily: Are there any go-to sports documentaries that you think we as women must watch that shaped your understanding of the industry or the culture around sports?
Drive to Survive is easily the best sports documentary out there. It will truly make you fall in love with Formula One. Netflix has done two rounds of NFL series, Quarterback and Receivers. They’re fun! I also just 10/10 recommend following NFL films on social media because they mic players up often and get some golden content. Seeing these athletes as humans makes rooting for them during the games that much more fun. And obviously Simone Biles rising because who doesn’t want to see the GOAT up close?! Oh, also! The documentary Gleason will change your life, it follows former NFL player Steve Gleason after his diagnosis with ALS.
What I’m Listening To -
What would be your walk-out song if you were playing in the game?
Cameron: OK so I’m not sure about my current walk-out song that feels like so much pressure, but I can tell you about my old music routine for college lacrosse! In the locker room the last song I’d listen to before we headed out was This Must be the Place and then on the walk from the locker room to the field I’d keep my headphones on and listen to Cinderella Man every time. I still get so insanely pumped when I hear either of these songs - it sends me right back to college lacrosse days.
Lily: I cheer for the Buffalo Bills and therefore have had a resurgence of interest in Hailee Steinfeld and when I tell you that you do “Love Myself” goes so much harder than you could ever remember, it’s the truth.
Bonus Q for Lily: If you were to recommend one episode of your podcast for a girl to listen to to prep for Super Bowl weekend and “be in the know” which would it be? Our podcast is under overhaul right now so if you want to dig in the archives, I did an episode last year after Harrison Butker’s commencement speech called “In the world of Harrisons, Be a Jalen” where I dive into Jalen Hurts and his all-female team.
What I’m Reading -
Cameron: I’m so close to finishing Onyx Storm so expect a review soon!!! But right now I just finished listening to The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins and I am so incredibly obsessed with it and feel it has truly altered my brain chemistry. 10/10 recommend!!!
Lily:Prayers up for Cam as I literally just finished Onyx Storm and know what’s coming for her. IYKYK
Bonus Q for Lily : Favorite way to consume sports content and sports news? Besides my completely biased answer of Sportsish, scrolling X during a game is a thrill. Sports fans giving live reactions, memes, and commentary in real time can make for a party.
What I’m Wearing -
Cameron:
Cindy’s suit - I fell in love with my mom’s TWP suit that I wore to the Kinda Pregnant premiere and, unfortunately for us all, it’s no longer available. However, we pulled some similar pieces and put them all together here!
Shopbop is having a great sale so we also rounded up some favorites (have and love or eyeing) all under $150 for you to shop here!
Lily:
I’m obsessed with this set from Rhone. I first saw it on Alex Morgan’s appearance on Kylie Kelce’s podcast and it’s even better irl.
Bonus Q: What’s your game day fit for a Super Bowl party…or if you’re attending THE game?
Cameron - I wish I was attending the game, but I will be decked out in my gear! I cannot wear my favorite A&F sweatshirt because I wore it in the last Eagles/Chiefs SB 2 years ago, so I’ll be wearing one of my vintage sweatshirts from a thrift shop I got a few years ago and obviously my Offseason jacket if I ever leave the house
Lily - I can’t get too one sided when it comes to team merch these days, I try to stay decently objective (outside of the Bills because I can’t quit them). So this shirt from Wear By EA x Rebecca Minkoff just a general go team statement is perfect. That’s what I’m wearing for the Super Bowl!
What I’m Eating -
Cameron:
Graza Olive Oil - If you watch any of my cooking videos you see me continuously use the Graza olive oil (both their sizzle and drizzle) and it’s for good reason - I’m obsessed. Excited to share we now have a code!!! CAMERON for 10% off
Magic Spoon Cereals & Bars - A staple in our household for breakfast and snack time! Use my code CAMERONOAKS if you want to try for $5 off the cereal of the treats
An “Italian Chopped Salad” of sorts - As someone who hates lunch, this has been my hyper fixation meal for the week
Lily:
Headed to New Orleans and I am excited for FOOD! Will absolutely be stopping for a Po’Boy and Beignet
Bonus Questions -
What’s your favorite Super Bowl snack spread?
Cameron: Wings, chili, allllll of the dips (specifically a Mexican layered dip), and chips. Give me it ALL
Lily: My mom always makes chili-cheese dogs on Super Bowl Sunday and it is always a nostalgic hit.
If you’re hosting, what should you make? If you’re attending a party what should you bring?
Cameron: I’ll be having my cousins, mom, aunt, and Nana over for the game but I think we will be ordering everything in because Joe is gone and we’ll have both kids and the idea of cooking for everyone does not excite me tbh! If you’re cooking though - I am always a chili fan!!! If you’re going somewhere, no one will complain about an additional dip!
Lily: If there’s a theme, I’m always leaning in. You’ve got to with with the football field guacamole
What I’m Loving -
Cameron: B The Method - if you listened to this week’s episode of CWC then you learned more about this from the founder, Lia Bartha, but I am a big fan of this at-home low-impact workout. The focus on form is one of my favorite parts, personally! Code CAMERON for 100% off your first month!
Lily: A few weeks ago, some loser on twitter said that “women don’t belong in men’s hockey.” This dumbass comment was met with the wrath of many of the NHL’s female employees showing their day to day lives in helping the league be successful. It was my favorite trend of the year. Yesterday was National Women and Girls in Sports Day and I just love strides and wins and confidence women in sports are having.
What My Family is Loving -
Cameron: Weezie Robes - the boys have been wearing their robes lately after bath-time and it absolutely kills me how cute they are
Lily: My two year old daughter just received a package from Rebel Girls with these books teaching young girls to dream big.
How I’m Filling My Cup -
Cameron: Ending my workdays and trying to set boundaries around work and personal life. This is a huge goal for me in 2025 and something I’ve really been focused on. I recently posted a story that said “shutting off work because I’m not a heart surgeon and I should stop treating my work like I am one” because, for real. I’ve been giving Joe a time each night that I plan to meet him on the couch to hang out (cards, watch a movie, read, etc) and really making an effort to stick to it.
Lily: Staying connected with friendships. Sometimes when life gets busy, especially as a a mom and a wife and a business owner, it is easy to let friendships fall by the wayside. But making extra effort there even if it’s just a text or 20 minute FaceTime or once a month dinner keeps friendships alive. So start planning a Galentines party for you and girls you love!
Loved the Q and A!! So fun and I finished Kinda Pregnant today and it was hilarious!!! Hope you have an amazing weekend and enjoy the game with your sweet family!💙
