Filling My Cup Week of 5/17/2024
So many recommendations - from what I'm reading to how my family is getting in the spirit for summer!
Happy Friday my people! I cannot believe it but we are celebrating my toddler’s third birthday this weekend (very casually with pizza & cake). Where has time gone?? I feel like I became a mom yesterday!! When I think about how old he is and what a mature little dude he’s grown to be, I immediately cry. It scares me how fast time is moving and causes me great anxiety however I’m focusing on the positives. This is the first year he’s aware of his birthday and he is pumped. So, HBD to the little man who made me a mom!
What I’m Reading
NYTimes Article - I thoroughly enjoyed this article depicting the roadblocks millennial moms face. It outlined the roadblocks we are facing (i.e. social media and “perfection”) that didn’t exist for prior generations. This part really resonated with me…
“When we had questions about parenting, we went to a book or called the doctor,” said Margie E. Lachman, a baby boomer with millennial children and a professor of psychology at Brandeis University. “We got an answer, and that was it. Millennial parents have immediate access to unlimited information… but the drive to become a more mindful, less reactive, more positive parent - a kind of mantra among many millennial moms - can create its own kind of pressure cooker.”
The Spanish Love Deception - If I told myself 2 months ago how much I’d enjoy this book, I’d be shocked. I came across it on Kindle unlimited and gave it a try but didn’t click with it off the bat so it almost became a DNF. I finished another book and came back to this and something shifted. Heads up - it’s a slow burn. I became a sucker for “enemy turned lover” and “fake dating” trope. Easy romance read with some good spice in the last 20% of the book.
What I’m Watching
Babes - I had the honor of going to a movie screening (who am I????) for Babes this week and it was fucking hilarious. I have never seen a truer and more spot on depiction in comedy of what pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, and female friendships along the way looks like. It comes out in theaters today so I highly recommend having yourself a solo or girls night to go see it! Watch the trailer here!
What I’m Loving
Wide Leg Pant - I have been looking for lightweight lounge pants of sorts that I can sleep in, do my PJ workout, and then head off to school drop off in. These are absolutely perfect for that exact scenario. They are soft like butter, comfortable as hell, and have pockets! The triple whammy.
Beast Blender - I hyperfixate on breakfasts because it is one less thing for me to think about and we are deep in our smoothie phase. I’ve been making a smoothie for breakfast pretty much every morning for the past 6 weeks and I don’t see it stopping any time soon. I am blending banana, blueberries, chia seeds, water, peanut butter, protein powder, and spinach together and have been using and loving my new Beast mini blender. It is so sleek looking, so it never needs to be put away, and it gives me the perfect creamy texture without sounding like it’s going to take down the house with it. Use code CAMERON!
Kitchen Fairies - The other night I came up with a fun and elaborate imaginary story about the “kitchen fairies” who close up our kitchen every night to make sure our food stays fresh for the next day in order to fight off the night-time negotiations with my toddler and we have been having so much fun with it!

What My Family is Loving
Bounce House - I really promised myself at one point that I would never be that parent, but turns out everything you think you’re not going to do as a parent is a load of horse shit cause it all goes to the wayside when the time comes! Alas, we are a bounce house family. Our neighbor has this one and our son quickly became obsessed, so we are surprising him for his birthday with one in the backyard!
Toddler Sunglasses - These are wildly unnecessary (for most) but my toddler acts like Edward Cullen when the sun is in his eyes so he demanded sunglasses. We love these!
Uncrustable Maker - While we are big fans of uncrustables in this household, we unfortunately cannot send them to school for lunch because our toddler is in a nut-free classroom. So instead I bought this little gadget to make them myself and use sunflower butter (or a cream cheese and jelly sandwich).
Men’s Bathing Suit - I recently did a Sezane order and saw that they made swim trunks for men so got a pair for Joe and he is a huge fan. The material is his preferred thickness and the length is that ideal “not too long not too short”.
How I’m Filling my Cup
Gardening - I’ve been trying to grow my green thumb and it has been so fun. The other weekend I did our front step pots and our window boxes and I love how they turned out so much. Every time I leave the house it gives me something small to smile at and feel proud of. Plus, now I am on “cut flower garden” TikTok and feel like this is my next calling and venture?? So stay tuned!
I'm so curious about the beast blender! I saw it in person at Crate & Barrel the other day and thought it was gorgeous. My only hesitation is how it blends compared to a blendtec or vitamix.
