Capturing the moments: how I preserve memories of my kids' lives
As someone who lives in constant fear that I'll forget moments of my kids' early years, here is how I go about trying to organize the content I have
I don’t think I’m alone in this, but I constantly fear that I will forget moments or core memories of my kids’ lives and that no photograph or video will ever do the actual moment justice. I guess the latter is true, because it never will compare to the lived experience of that exact moment in time, but the former haunts me regularly. I try my best to be as present in those moments as possible, but I also want some form of physical reminder to reflect on in later years to remind me of these highs. Because of that, I have curated somewhat of a “memory” system to celebrate their current stages and return to reminisce over when they’re older. Whenever I share about these processes I get a lot of questions asking about the organization and structure of it all, so I will lay it all out for you here. Given that my son’s first birthday is this week, it feels very top of mind. Before diving into it all, I want to make two things clear:
This is simply the process that I prefer. There are so many different ways of doing this and everyone will have different preferences. Choose a method that works for YOU because that is what is most important
Doing this does not define me as a mother or make me better than anyone else. If this isn’t in the cards for you or you simply dont want to do something like this, you’re just as great of a mother as someone who does.
If you are someone who does this in a similar or different manner, I’d love to hear about your process!
Also, one quick thing before diving in… I’m excited to announce an event that I’m involved in tomorrow on Tuesday 10/15 @ 12PM!! Little Spoon and I are hosting a very transparent event next week— we're talking about parenthood, we're talking about health and balance and we're talking about brand transparency and what parents need when it comes to the products they use for their family. It will begin with a workout led by Megan Roup and then a panel discussion (that I’ll be leading!!!) on parenting and baby food safety with panelists Eden Grinshpan, Megan Roup, Emily DiDonato, and Rachel Nicks. I hope to see some of you there!
Okay, now back to my method of organizing my memories…
