Filling My Cup Week of 5/3/24
A podcast rebrand, lots of recent recs, and some of my favorite things as of late!!
Happy May!!!! This week I’ve been singing JT’s infamous “its gonna be MAY” line nonstop. I feel like the first quarter of this year flew by. It might be due to the fact that I was postpartum… but wow I am shook it is almost SUMMER!!! My favorite time of the year - I cannot wait. I recently decided I want our summer to be filled with fun. 2 out of the past 3 summers I’ve been freshly postpartum (or pregnant) so I’m ready to fill this one up with fun in the sun. Here’s how I’ve been filling my cup this week!
Podcast Rebrand - The rebrand for my podcast was a labor of love, and a f*ckload of work, and I am SO happy it is finally here. Thank you to everyone who helped me navigate the 10,000 changes and for not being annoyed with my indecisiveness. Most importantly, thank YOU for the support and love. It means the world to me. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to this week’s episode, here it is!
What I’m Reading
Funny Story - As a big fan of all of Emily Henry’s books, it’s not a surprise that I loved this so much. One thing I love about her as a writer is her character development. All of her books are focused on romance, but there are characters outside of the relationship that we get to know really well. This story is about a woman whose fiancé leaves her shortly before their wedding and she’s left scrambling for a place to live and ends up moving in with the ex of the woman that her own ex left her for. At first, I wasn’t sure how I felt about the main male character, Miles, but by the end I loved him. If you’re looking for a feel good romance novel (with not a ton of spice), this is it!
What I’m Listening to
Simone Biles on CHD - As a huge fan of Simone Biles, I love this episode! It tapped into so much of the mental health journey that professional athletes go through, especially what she experienced with her twisties and the pressure she felt to perform for herself, her team, and especially for the country. I cannot even fathom having that weight on my shoulders.
Mandy Moore on Not Alone - I've always been a fan of Mandy Moore. She is a dream podcast guest for me. I really enjoyed when they were talking about motherhood and how Mandy's desire to have a flourishing career allows her to be the best mom she can be to her kids.
What I’m Watching
Vanderpump Rules - I am only 2 episodes in and not sure how I feel about this journey, but I am taking Rihanna’s suggestion and giving the Bravo world a try. Maybe in some world this will all end up with her being a podcast guest?? A girl can dream. Either way, I’m embarking on this journey and trying to navigate what/how I want to share my thoughts because one of my biggest holdbacks with reality TV is I feel so icky seeing/engaging with the commentary of the characters because they’re real people. And yes, I know they “signed up for this”, but that doesn’t make the snark more tolerable (speaking from experience).
What I’m Loving
birthFUND - I learned about this new organization on social media last week and am a huge proponent of their work. Founded by Elaine Welteroth, birthFUND identifies and vets birth workers, reviews and selects submissions, and then provides need-based grants for mothers/families to provide them with holistic perinatal care and midwifery birth support services. The US is one of the most advanced and wealthiest nations in the world and is in the midst of a soaring maternal health crisis - it is the deadliest (of the wealthy nations) to give birth in, especially for Black women. BirthFUND is here to stop this from being the norm. If interested in this cause, please consider donating!
The High Confectionary - I talk about these edibles all the time, but I love them. Each gummy is only 1mg so you could have 1, 5, or the whole pack, depending on what you’re looking for! Use CAMERON for 20% off your order!
What My Family is Loving
Travel crib - I was recently gifted this travel crib and I am a huge fan. It is so easy to put together, take apart, and travel with. It’s also soft and stylish which is a huge bonus plus. Whether we bring it on vacation or use it at the house, we love!
Gap Picks - I have become a huge fan of Gap for the boys and they are having a 50% off sale! (I swear nothing is ever full price). Here are all of the pieces I got for the boys as the weather warms up!
How I’m Filling my Cup
I have been walking Squash to school alone this week and it has been such an amazing start to my day. It gets me outside early in the day, gives us one-on-one time, and counts as my exercise. I hope to make it an ongoing thing!
I invite you all to leave a comment and share what you’ve been loving and how you’re filling your cup!! I love getting new ideas from all of you!
